A team of researchers from the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, headed by Dr. David Helman, have developed a new method for assessing the quality of tomatoes while on the vine, without picking or damaging the fruit.
Their study, published in "Computers and Electronics in Agriculture", and which has led to patent registered in the United States, offers an efficient and cost-effective solution supporting fast and cheap quality control during the growing process.
