A new study by doctoral student Almog Ozeri, supervised by Prof. Oded Shoseyov and the laboratory staff at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, in collaboration with the food-tech company Miruku, brings us one step closer to the possibility of producing real milk proteins.

The study, published in Frontiers in Plant Science, reveals a new storage mechanism in plant cells that may help in the future develop plants that can produce milk proteins more efficiently.

This is a significant step in the field of molecular agriculture, which may in the future contribute to the production of dairy components in a sustainable manner, without the need to raise animals.
