Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, in collaboration with the food-tech company Miruku, brings us one step closer to the possibility of producing real milk proteins.
The study, published in Frontiers in Plant Science, reveals a new storage mechanism in plant cells that may help in the future develop plants that can produce milk proteins more efficiently.
This is a significant step in the field of molecular agriculture, which may in the future contribute to the production of dairy components in a sustainable manner, without the need to raise animals.
