Dr. Doron Zaada and Prof. Philippos Papathanos of the Department of Entomology have developed a genetic method that makes it possible to immediately differentiate between male and female mosquitoes according to their body color.
This capability is important for pest control programs in which only males (who do not bite) are released into the wild, in order to reduce mosquito populations that transmit diseases. The findings were published in Nature Communications.
