According to a new study by doctoral student Yehuda Slater, supervised by Prof. Iddo Kan, Prof. Israel Finkelshtain and Prof. Aron Troen of the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Israel has no realistic possibility of achieving complete food self-sufficiency, even on a wholly vegetarian diet.
The findings, published in Food Policy, emphasize that constraints relating to land, water and economic feasibility require a calculated reliance on importrs alongside local production, storage and agricultural innovation.
