Dr. Guy Golan of the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment has led a new study which shows that "cooperative" wheat, which does not compete with the plants around it, produces a higher yield.
The findings suggest an innovative approach to improving wheat varieties: cultivating plants that invest in reproduction rather than in the struggle for resources.
This can increase agricultural productivity, make better use of light, water and fertilizer, and establish sustainable agriculture.
