Scholarships for Master Students and Postdoctoral Fellows for 2018-19

The Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is inviting applications for MSc and Postdoctoral scholarships offered by its International School of Agricultural Sciences for the 2018-19 academic year.

The Faculty seeks to strengthen and internationalize its research and teaching programs by offering a highly competitive scholarship program for excelling candidates that graduated from leading universities in Australia, Canada, European Union countries, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland or the United States.   

Scholarship Description: 

Applications Deadline: September 15, 2018

Academic Level: Scholarships are available to pursue an MSc degree or Postdoctoral training on the Faculty’s campus in Rehovot.

Subject: Scholarships are awarded in all teaching and research areas of the Faculty.

Nationality: Candidates of all nationalities are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Award: Pending on funding availability, Master degree students will receive full or partial scholarships covering tuition and living expenses for a duration of 2 years of their studies, 60,000 NIS per year. Postdoctoral Fellows will receive full or partial scholarships to cover living costs for one-year, 90,000 NIS.

Selection is based on exceptional scholarly achievement and evidence of unusual promise, and potential contribution to a culturally-diverse academic community. The Faculty strives for a diverse and international pool of applicants and especially welcomes those from underrepresented sectors in the society.

Eligibility and Application Material:

Applicants must meet the following criteria and submit the listed documentations and materials:

I.     Academic degrees from a recognized, leading university. 

MSc Scholarships – Depend on targeted area of studies, applicants must hold a BSc degree in natural, biological, agricultural or environmental sciences, or like areas; OR a BA or BSc degree in economics, agricultural economics or resource economics, or like areas. 

Postdoctoral Scholarships – Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a field related to their proposed subject of research. Applicants not yet holding the PhD must have completed all requirements, including thesis submission, at the time of application and expect to have their PhD degree approved prior to their arrival at Rehovot. 

II.    Documented previous academic achievements,

including official transcripts (all coursework, credits and grades), copy of diplomas, etc.   

III.    Detailed Curriculum Vitae,

including list of publications, if any.

IV.     Documented English language proficiency.

Applicants for an MSc scholarship, whose first language is not English or those that did not undertake previous academic studies in English, are required to provide evidence of English proficiency (at least 89 on the TOEFL internet-based test OR at least 7.0 on the IELTS*). For exemption, please provide documentation of previous academic studies conducted in English OR score on an English proficiency test.

* MSc applicants with a score of 80-89 in TOEFL or 6-6.5 in IELTS may be admitted to the program with the condition of reaching the required level of English language proficiency by the end of the first school year of study.

V.     A letter of recommendation 

from former academic teacher/advisor.

VI.     A letter from the proposed advisor

from the MSc candidates advisor or PI host (for postdoctoral candidates) expressing his/her wish to have the candidate join their research group.
