Prof. Louise O. Fresco, President of Wageningen University & Research has been honored with an Honorary Doctorate from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Prof. Fresco is a world-renowned expert in the field of agriculture and food security, and an influential international leader.

Fresco served as a board member of many international institutions such as The Asian Vegetable Research and Development Institute, and conducted field work in dozens of countries.

Fresco is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, among other prestigious bodies.

She is a member of six other scientific academies, and has been honored with several awards including two Honorary Doctorates.

Fresco has written about the history of agriculture, poverty and development, surplus and obesity, and contemporary gastronomic trends.

Prof. Fresco is an inspiration in her quest to engage scientists and the public to become better, more just stewards of the future.

During her last visit to Israel, Prof. Fresco opened The FoodTech Nation 2019 conference, that took place in June at the Robert H Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment in Rehovot, with a fascinating lecture about the World’s Food Supply, and has tasted the novel food products developed by our undergraduate students.

Prof.  Fresco walked through the campus, met with local students who had been exchange students at Wageningen, and discussed collaborations on topics such as food and nutrition, plant phenotyping, and water quality management.

Prof. Fresco planted a tree on our campus  as part of a forest of UniversiTREES, that symbolically represent Wageningen international connections.
