Post-doctoral Training for Chinese Graduates

The Hebrew University Of Jerusalem / China Scholarship Council Joint Scholarship Scheme offers high quality post-doctorate level research training at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, to selected Ph.D. graduates from Chinese Institutions, for a period of one to two years.

The Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment is the only institute of higher education in Israel offering university degrees in agriculture and is also home to the only Schools of Nutritional Sciences and of Veterinary Medicine. Established in 1942 as the Institute for Agricultural Sciences with 21 students, the Faculty today has a student body of 2,300 students.

The Faculty offers academic programs leading to B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Agriculture, B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Nutrition, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. The Faculty also offers through its Division for External Studies international short-term postgraduate courses on various agricultural subjects, and a Masters of Science in Agriculture degree program and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Plant Sciences, all of which are conducted in English for foreign students.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem have signed an agreement to support up to 10 post-doctorate students each year in the following areas:
horticulture, food technology and nutrition, plant protection, soil, water and environment, agricultural environment and resource economics, animal and veterinary sciences.

The CSC will provide $900 per month for PhD students/$1000 per month for Post Doctoral Students/Visiting Scholars. CSC will consider their application for a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government (which include health insurance), a return international airfare to Israel by the most economical route, and visa application fees. HUJI host scientists will provide a minimum of US$600 subsidy per month, PhD tuition fees and adequate working conditions in order to pursue their research, including academic supervision, necessary laboratory services, materials and library services.

Criteria:

  • Candidates will be citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China at the time of application
  • Candidates must not be currently working or studying abroad;
    (This does not apply to Chinese master graduates at HUJI who want to continue their PHD studies at HUJI and to first year PHD students now studying at HUJI).
  • Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their research
  • Candidates must hold an unconditional offer letter from HU. They must therefore fulfill the relevant academic entry requirements set by HU, including a high level of language proficiency.
  • Candidates should satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC by completing the CSC Application Form and the CSC Employer Reference Form at: http://apply.csc.edu.cn/ .

  • Candidates are required to find and contact a supervisor from HUJI.
  • Candidates should directly apply for admission to HUJI before the application deadline: 22 December 2016 for Postdoctoral students and visiting researchers 19 March 2017 for PhD students
